About Writing a Torah
Scroll...
Three thousand years ago we began our journey as a people united. We stood at the base of Mt. Sinai and received that most precious possession of G-d — the Torah. Wherever we have gone as a nation and a people, the Torah containing our laws and our history has been our constant companion, guiding us, protecting us, maintaining the integrity of the Jewish People.
The Torah is the most illustrious and exciting book in the world. Its words have inspired the greatest minds in history. The Ten commandments are the foundation of every democracy on the face of the earth. At this time, when the world is searching for the priceless blessing of peace, we, as Jews, must reassert our unity. We must reaffirm the
dedication that has p
reserved us as a people through the ages.
Chabad of South Metro Denver is proud to continue a centuries old tradition by commissioning a Torah, handwritten by a Sofer (scribe) especially for the South Metro Denver Jewish Community.
In our tradition, no letter is more important than another. As the letters of the Holy Torah are dependent upon one another for its completion, so is one Jew linked with all Jews in an indissoluble chain. According to Jewish Law, a person who completes even one letter of the Torah is regarded as if he has written the entire scroll. And a person who writes a Torah "is regarded as if it had been given to him at Sinai".
We ask you to continue the age-old custom of honoring yourself, a family member or a friend by inscribing and owning a letter along with thousands of other Jews, as we build and dedicate this very special Torah scroll for the South Metro Denver Jewish Community. This is also a unique and fitting way to honor the memory of a beloved grandparent, parent, uncle or aunt.
By participating in the creation of the South Metro Denver Torah you have a life long remembrance. In a very special way, you are signifying that you are one with the Jewish people, one with tradition - one with destiny.
